THE FINAL BATCH!

Ok, so here's the final batch. I'm throwing them up early because I'm not sure when I'll be able to again. My girlfriend's grandfather passed away today, so the next few days are going to be a lot of running around. So this is the last of what I have and for the most part are recently done. Here ya go:
This one here is a few panels a guy I knew drew up and I had inked. He was in the indy biz back in the day, like early 90's. I had this idea I was working on at the time, and he was showing me a better way to draw it up. He left the last panel empty for me to fill in, but I couldn't get anything to work right with it, that and my style compared to his really didn't mesh up right. On a side note, he was a close friend of Jim and Tom McWeeney, the latter of course is one of the creators of one of my favorite dark horse originals, Roachmill. Ok random tangent over....

This here was a sketch I did 2 years ago just playing around with the pose, and to see if I still had any talent left after years of telephone doodles and to see if I could do the angle and whatnot.

This here was another sketch from 2 years ago, just some random barbarian type guy. Again just putzing around with it. The anatomy blows on the pecs, but again it was just me playing around.Another one of me just playing around. This guy liked to just inject HGH into his right arm, the left arm is severely jealous, but is happy it doesn't have a crappy shoulder pad on it.

I drew this really quickly at work, i think in like 5 minutes total really, in anticipation of the FF2 movie. I was psyched that the surfer was going to be in it, as he's always been a fave of mine. I tend to like my fast sketches better than my finished pieces. Maybe while I relearn my stuff I'll just do a crap load of these and then I'll post them up on here. And I'm ending this on a silly note here, this picture was done by my friend around the same time as the page up above. He absolutely hated a certain high profile comic artist and drew this up for me really quick. I'll give 5 bucks to the person who can 'NAME THAT ARTIST'! haha My posts for a while will probably be random stuff like movie/tv and comic reviews and I'm working on a written piece with Todd's 'Haps, so I'll probably post that as well once it's done! Alright peas out peeps.

UP YOURS 'WE LOVE THE 80's'....LATER 90'S STUFF

I love those VH1 we love the 80's shows. they had some great and funny stuff that just show how much cheese and craziness there was in that era. Now mind you, I was born in 75 but the 80's were some of my favorite years, especially where cartoons were concerned. I drew the above sketch of Lion-o 2 years ago while watching the series on dvd. It's just a quicky, but I love how it came out. This post is picture heavy cuz I'm trying to crank these out. I had to put in a ceiling fan yesterday and it took frikkin forever! Boo hoo me.

This pic was done later in the 90's, not sure of the exact year but I'd say maybe 96-ish as a ball park. The knight came out looking old as I went too much with the face wrinkles, and can you tell he's wearing a cape? haha....And the demon in the background was just a doodle mostly.

This pic I did for the autographs page for the 96 graduating class at DeVry where I was going to school at the time. I was trying to do it all manga style, but it still came out pretty good. Everyone loved it though.

This was a doodle trying to draw Lobo, Bisley style. Yeah we'll leave it at that, Gawd I hate hair! And yeah that's a jacked dude giving the finger to the left.

While I was heavy into Anime at this time, I can't draw it for shit. As simple as it looks, it's a tough style to nail. But here's a try anyways.

And this was an attempt and having a bunch of people falling off of a building, and I was trying to do the shadow heavy Mignola-ish thing with it. As it's unfinished you can tell how I felt about where it was heading.

That's all for this one. I'll post the rest of what I have next time, probably like Thursday or Friday. It's going to be crazy week. So it might even be Friday. See ya all then!

AHHH THE 90'S......PART DREI

Ok so after a way too busy week here's more crazy 90's laugh material. This will be the last of my really, really old stuff.(not that it's really all that old, BUT...). I have a few more pieces but as time gets crunching at work, and i don't feel like overloading the net with my crap, so the next posts will be what I've done more recently.

While not the best looking, nor finished piece I kinda like the way the face and pose came out. I was inking this with pen and ink, not sure of the size or anything, but it got too tedious to me so I stopped. That and the hair was a pain in the ass, and I hate drawing hair!!

This one always made me laugh, while I like the guy in the foreground, I never quite had a clue as to how to explain Anti-gravity man on the left. And the right leg on the guy on the right is just WAY too out of whack. I also like how the guy in the foreground is balanced on the rocks, cuz when the time for battle comes, it's awesome to stand on a couple of rocks.

This is another one of my faves. It was just supposed to be a little sketch as a warm up, but I liked the way everything came out so much I started to ink it. I was big on Mortal Kombat at the time(couldn't figure that out could you??? haha) and Tim Vigil's Faust comic and so I threw this out there.

And finally this one is just a couple of characters from the cover pin-up I posted earlier in another go around. I'm thinking on keeping this one as a follow up again as I really loved working on the guy on the right. I used to do a ton of pics of him and the 'tentacles' were always a hoot. I'll give a dollar to the person who could name which comic villian i loved at that time!

That's it for this batch, next round will have me taking on a beloved 80's cartoon icon! Should be Monday I'll post it. So see ya then!

AH THE 90'S!!!! PART DEUX.....

Continuing on in the saga of my early attempts at drewing. I started to get annoyed at the way the industry was looking, as well as my own stuff. I felt that the clones, and even the people that originated the 'look' were getting too 'samey'. As with a lot of things I've gotten into, I started late on a few things. I didn't really start reading comics until 7th or 8th grade, which would have been around '87 I believe and even then it was limited to what was being passed around amongst friends. Mostly GI Joe, X-men, Spidey, Supes, and what not. The mainstream stuff. When I got into things a few years from then, that's when the clones started, as I posted before. Long ramble short, I got bored of comic book art. I had been big on reading fantasy, and yes I was a D & D geek, wasn't everyone at some point? Huh??? haha....Anywho's, I got into wanting to do more work like that, fantasy illustration. Unfortunately I don't have much of anything that I started to do with that work. Lost it along the way I must have. So here's the last of my early 90's work and the stuff I do have concerning my foray into fantasy work. Tomorrow or Weds. I'll post again with more stuff to cringe and chuckle at.

This was something I had wanted to develop and it didn't make it past here. Kind of a futuristic-sci-fi crime thing really. I had drawn more pics of the main character, the guy in the trench coat, but didn't feel comfortable enough with the rest of the characters. It was the days of large, reflective metal shoulder pads and I just lost the desire to develop that look further haha.

Here's the start of my fantasy stuff. Still too comic-booky, but I really liked working with this character. I just started working on other stuff at the time and never got back to him or my ideas, maybe I will when I start up again, only I'll lose the face mask, as I had this whole idea of him being able to see thru it and blah blah blah, it was lame no matter how I tried to justify it. I tried to ink the top piece with pen and ink, kinda got annoyed by it, then I was trying to putz around with splatter effects a little. Didn't succeed though.

This one here came out SOOOOO good and along the lines of what I had in mind, only I never finished it and the right arm was just way too long!! The dragon-man behind him was too comic booky, but I still liked it. I'd love to just finish it, but everything I add might not work, so it might get re-done as well.

My first attempt at a dragon. I liked this one a lot too, but lost interest in doing all the scales and detail. There's more to the picture, like a half torso on the right side and more to the skull pile on the left but it didn't all fit on the scanner. But I got the good parts anyways. Again though you can see that I still had a long ways to go with this stuff.

Finally, here's a demon I was working on. I screwed up the head, which is why it's not scanned, so I didn't bother to finish it. Even if it's not 100% dead on, I still like the anatomy on this. That and the hands. His legs needed to be twisted a bit as well and they came up a bit short.

Well that's it for this installment, catch me here same bat time, same bat channel! Peas out!

AH THE 90'S!!!!

This is going to be in multiple parts as I was able to get in a lot of pics on the computer. Okay so as promised-here are some more 'old-stuff' pics. Man the 90's were an odd period to like comics. Some of the art was either really good or it ripped off the really good stuff. The Jim Lee and Liefeld clones were out in force. I admit, I tried that route, never liked it. I always wanted to find my own 'voice' or style if you will. I at first wanted to be like the other clones out there, but then I started getting heavy into anime and animation in general, and I wanted to get more into drawing realistically, even if I couldn't grasp the concept. I'm self-taught, took some art classes in high school, then one in college, but never really applied myself or paid attention, cuz dammit i wanted to draw comics and they were teaching me how to draw fruit!! hahaha......Yeah the stuff that you really want to learn, but to a teenager you don't want to hear any of it, right?! So without further adieu here are some pics for ya:

This here wonderful scan was a cover idea i had started. i never really liked it, so it never got done. As I started it, it just didn't click, and no background ever got added either.

This is the first female face I ever drew to completion. I can't draw women for crap, but this one came out ok. Gotta love the hair too haha! It's like a frikkin helmet! This here was always one of my faves. I did this my senior year of high school in a graphic arts class I took. We were making x-mas cards and this was my idea. At the time I was always annoyed by the 'sidewalk santas'-those bells and the whole idea used to piss me off(I was an angry child)-so my idea was what if Lobo met up with one? The balloon here said HO HO HO-and on the inside it said Merry Fraggin X-mas! Lovely right? The teacher just loved it. I printed a bunch up and sadly only have 1 left.

This here was a fist attempt at doing some kind of violent type picture-like I said man was I a pissed of teen haha! It's ok, Iwas just looking for an excuse to draw something with blood and bullet holes.

And this last piece(sorry for the bad scan I had to take it with my digi-cam), was my first ever try at a full comic page. The empty panel was supposed to be a figure in the doorway in the shadows but I could never get it to look right so I left it. That last panel needed more shadows also but didn't know how to really do it up right. The text there reads 'Nosferatu, man who lives forever!' I have this ongoing project concerning Nosferatu, where he's back to life in an apocalyptic future, and just wants to die, but can't seem to fight the need to feed and continue on. I'll post some of that down the line too for those interested.

Well there ya go for now I'll post more in a day or so. Peas out!

Trying To Get Back In The Game

Ok so I'm trying to get myself back into the swing of things. Time has been my enemy, always has, but I want to really get my act in gear. As I get ready to start to re-read some of my books on drewing techniques, I figured I'd post some of my old stuff here. Now this is stuff from like 12-15 years ago(gawd I can't believe it's been that long!!).

This first piece(REALLY REALLY bad scan!) was a cover I was submitting for my high school literary magazine my senior year(93-dear lord!!). It took me like 3 days to work on, to only be tossed aside for some really retarded picture someone drew of a kid on a water drop. I no longer have this, I have no idea what happened to it, but it's one of my first full pieces for actual presentation.

This is one of my fave pieces. Never really finished it, to this day it still sits in a folder. I just never got around to finishing it. Which happens alot really. I have ADD when it comes to drewing-i tend to start something, get an idea for something else and never get back. This is a bad scan too, but I don't have a better one really. I think this one is from 95/96 while I was going to computer school. I just loved how old Bats came out and when i got done and started filling in the rest of it, I got distracted and never figured out how to finish it.

Lastly, this is probably my fave piece I've ever done. Done in 96 with a little of that 90's flair to it, I worked on this and it didn't take me all of that long. I think like 2 days in between work and school. I'll post some more stuff over the weekend as I go thru my things and find some more. Enjoy!
