FIRE IN THE HOLE PART 10-THE FINALE!!!!

Ok so here it is the end of the story. I failed miserably at my main intention, which was to put this out weekly. Todd gave me a good tip that I should have it finished and let it stew for a bit, then take a run through it and see how I feel about it. Then let it loose upon the world. Next time I write something I will do that, but I was looking to do this on the fly and kinda just run with it. Other than my outline of where I wanted it to go, I didn't get into the story until I started it. Time got the best of me, but I've got it done, learned a valuable lesson and had a blast working with the crew I chose for the story. The story of the greys was something I wanted to do for a long time, and this allowed me a great outlet for it and to be able to work with the 'Haps. So here we go, enjoy the ending!! And thanks again to Todd for letting me play!!

“Big,” trembled Molly. “You and Peter need to get us all out of here as fast as possible. The things the lead alien-“

“Molly, he’s dead. Look,” said Big as he pointed at the tank. “Where were you, what did he do to you?”

“I don’t want to talk about it. We still need to get out of here though. There’s a strangeness here that we need to get away from, or we’ll be devoured by it.”

“Hey Big!” yelled Choopie. ”I found this panel over here on the other side of the tank. It’s got this button on it, I wonder what it does?!”

“Choopie, don’t push that button. Step away from the pa-“

Choopie pushed the button and the room exploded in red flashing lights and a really obnoxious alarm.

“What did you do that for ya little creep?!” yelled Hammerskold.

“COMPLEX IMPLOSION IMMENENT. COUNTDOWN 15 MINUTES.”

“Um, that’s not good is it Big?” asked Choopie.

“No, it’s not. We need to get out of here now!”

“Wow he just continues with the stupidity.” Muttered Hammerskold.

They all headed for the door that they came in from but it was locked. Trying the door on the side of the room they found that one shut tight as well.

“Why would they set the doors to lockdown mode? Wouldn’t they want to be able to escape?” asked Merrow.

“I think the idea was to not let anyone escape.” replied Big. “I believe we may be stuck down here.”

“No we aren’t Big!” called Choopie, back by the tank. “I found a door hidden behind the tank. There’s another panel thingy with a button. Can I push this one?”

They all ran over to where he was standing and sure enough there was a door. Big pushed the button and the door opened.

“COMPLEX IMPLOSION IMMENENT. COUNTDOWN 13 MINUTES.

“C’mon this has to be some kind of escape route.” Said Big.

The door led into a corridor with a slight incline. The flashing red lights were the only light source and the alarms were a little duller in the corridor. They moved as fast as they could. Hammerskold took point laser rifle in hand with Molly taking the rear still slightly terrified and constantly looking behind her. The corridor leveled out and eventually they came to a bend and they continued on. The ever present reminder letting them know every minute where they stood-currently they had 5 minutes left to whatever fate would befall them if they didn’t get out in time.

The corridor seemed like it went on forever and they were getting tired from the forced run to get out, well except Molly, who was still terrified. Finally they reached an end to the corridor. The good news-there was a door, the bad news-it didn’t seem like it was going to open, the even worst news-they were at the minute mark to get out. Frantically Big looked for something to open the door with, but there wasn’t any touch panel or buttons of any kind around it. Choopie went to slump down against the door and fell right through it.

“Big!” he said peeking his head back through the door. “It’s the outside!! We made it c’mon, there’s a crew here from BEDLAM!”

As the overhead countdown started its final count from 5 seconds they all closed their eyes and jumped through the door hoping the door would hold in the imploding complex.

Outside they found themselves outside again back near the hole they were sent to investigate. There was indeed a BEDAM crew there, having come to find out what happened to the team. They had cordoned off the area under the guise of a hazmat team so as to keep anyone who stumbled into the area away. Inside of a large tent Big, Choopie and Hammerskold were talking with the Chief, letting him know what had happened to them. What they had seen and encountered after being taken captive by the greys.

“Ok so the leader of the greys had telepathic and telekinetic powers, but the part I don’t get is what happened to Molly?” asked the Chief. “What happened to her and why is she still scared? Was he really able to send her to the other side?”

“From what I can gather Chief,” explained Big. “I don’t think so. I can’t believe they would have the power to do that, otherwise we would have all had similar fates once he figured out we were going to be any kind of trouble. Thanks to Merrow though we were able to turn the tables on them.”

“Speaking of Merrow, Big, she really saved the day. Good thing you had her with you.”

“Yeah, she’s something else huh Chief?” asked Hammerskold as he looked outside the tent where Merrow was sitting and talking with Molly.

“Well, I’m glad everything turned out ok. It’s a real shame that the greys complex is destroyed. We found no trace of it at all, with the exception of the hole which blew out debris from the implosion.”

“Somehow Chief,” said Choopie sounding strangely retrospective. “I don’t think that’s the last well see or hear from them.”

Outside the cordoned off area a figure walked off muttering as it did so, “They can’t keep me from my hole, one day I’ll find out what went on here.”
